Chiles en Nogada: The Right Way to Celebrate

They were created at the Santa Mónica Convent in Puebla and were originally prepared to honor Agustín de Iturbide, one of Mexico’s independence leaders. The ingredients include:

  • Poblano peppers
  • Picadillo (a mixture of meat, fruits, and spices)
  • Walnut sauce
  • Pomegranate seeds and fresh parsley to decorate

While the dish may seem complicated to prepare or rare to eat to travelers, its flavor is surprisingly balanced!
